Money and Currency in Thailand
Thailand runs on the Thai Baht (THB); as of mid-2026, 1 THB is about Rs 2.86, so THB 1,000 is roughly Rs 2,860. A few things worth knowing before you fly:
Carry some cash. Street food, markets, tuk-tuks and island ferries are cash-first. Cards work at malls, hotels and larger restaurants.
Where to exchange. Rates at Thai city exchange counters (look for SuperRich-style booths) are usually better than the airport or your bank back home. Change a small amount at the airport, the rest in the city.
ATM charges. ATMs charge a fixed THB 220 per withdrawal, so take out larger amounts less often rather than small sums repeatedly.
Daily spend. Rough daily spend for a mid-range traveller runs about THB 2,000 to 3,000 (Rs 5,700 to Rs 8,600) for food, local transport and entry tickets, on top of your package. (Indicative, not a quote.)
Shopping in Thailand
Thailand is one of Asia's best-value shopping stops, and it is built into most itineraries. Bangkok alone covers the range: Chatuchak weekend market for everything under the sun, Pratunam for wholesale clothes, MBK and Terminal 21 for gadgets and knock-arounds, and the night markets for souvenirs. Good buys are clothes, leather, dried fruit and snacks, and cheap electronics; always bargain at markets (start around half). For the full market-by-market breakdown, see our Bangkok shopping guide and the Pratunam guide.
Indian and Vegetarian Food in Thailand
Indian and vegetarian food is easy across the tourist belt and every major city, and harder on remote islands, so it is worth planning. Bangkok's Sukhumvit and Pahurat (Little India) have full-service Indian restaurants; Pattaya, Phuket and Krabi all have reliable Indian and Jain options where a thali runs roughly Rs 400 to 700. Our itineraries flag the dependable spots, and the city guides list them by area: Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Krabi.
Best Time To Visit Thailand
November to March is the cool, dry peak, and the best window for islands and honeymoons, so book early. March to May is hot but cheaper and good for city and shopping trips. June to October is monsoon, with the lowest prices and short, heavy showers. One planning rule that saves a wet holiday: in the mid-year monsoon (roughly May to September), base yourself on the Gulf coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan), which stays drier then, rather than the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi), which is at its wettest. Full month-by-month guide on the best time to visit Thailand page.
What Most First-Time Indian Travellers Get Wrong About Thailand
A few things our travel experts hear on almost every first Thailand trip, worth knowing before you book:
They cram too many islands. Two islands in a week is relaxed; three means you spend the trip in transfers. Most repeat travellers wish they had done less.
They underrate the ferry and internal-transfer time. Phuket to Phi Phi, or Krabi to Koh Lanta, eats half a day. Packages that pre-book these save the scramble at the pier.
They over-plan Bangkok and under-plan the islands. Two nights in Bangkok is usually enough for the Grand Palace, a market and a rooftop; give the extra nights to the beaches.
This is the kind of detail a customizable, agent-built package gets right and a fixed group tour does not.
Where To Go On A Thailand Tour
Bangkok for temples, markets and nightlife; Pattaya for easy beaches and Coral Island; Phuket for big-island beach life and Phi Phi day trips; Krabi and Railay for limestone cliffs and quieter sand; Koh Samui and Koh Phangan for Gulf-coast calm; Chiang Mai for the cooler, cultural north. Most Indian itineraries pair Bangkok with one or two islands. Full picks with photos and maps: places to visit in Thailand and things to do in Thailand.
How To Reach Thailand From India
Direct flights run from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata and other metros to Bangkok (BKK/DMK), with onward domestic hops to Phuket, Krabi and Samui. Flight time is roughly 4 to 4.5 hours from north and west India. Most packages fly you into Bangkok and out of an island (or the reverse) so you never backtrack. City-wise routes and fares on the how to reach Thailand page.

FAQs About Thailand Tour Packages
How much does a Thailand tour cost from India?
A 5 to 6 night trip typically runs ₹25,000 to ₹45,000 per person land-only, plus flights; shorter Bangkok-Pattaya trips start lower and longer multi-island trips go higher
What is the best time to visit Thailand ?
November to March for the best weather; June to October for the lowest prices.
Are Thailand packages available with flights included from India?
Yes. Every package can be booked land-only or with return flights from your city added. A with-flights 5N/6D trip works out to about Rs 28,000 to 35,000 per person. Ask your agent to quote both so you can see the airfare separately and decide where to spend.
Do Indians need a visa for Thailand?
Yes. As of 2026 the earlier 60-day visa-free entry has ended. Indian passport holders can get a Visa-on-Arrival (15 days, THB 2,000 in cash) or apply for a Tourist e-Visa (60 days) in advance, and must register the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arriving. Passport must be valid 6+ months with a return ticket and hotel proof (re-confirm at the Thai embassy site before travel).
Is Thailand cheaper than India?
For day-to-day spending, India is generally cheaper on food, local travel and budget stays. Thailand's value shows up in its beaches, islands and organised experiences. Because our packages are customizable, you can build the trip to your own budget.
How many days are ideal for Thailand?
5 to 7 nights covering two to three destinations is the sweet spot for a first trip from India.
What are the best Thailand tour packages offered by TravelTriangle?
Popular picks include a Bangkok sightseeing tour, a Best of Thailand multi-city holiday and a Pattaya beach-and-nightlife package. Browse the 385 itineraries and filter by honeymoon, family, group or budget to match your trip.
Is Thailand safe for solo and Indian travellers?
Thailand is one of the more traveller-friendly countries in Southeast Asia, with a large Indian-tourist presence and easy access to Indian and vegetarian food. Use normal precautions in nightlife areas and on scooters, keep documents safe, and rely on your local agent for 24x7 support if anything comes up.
How many days do you need for a Thailand trip?
Six to seven days lets you do Thailand justice: about three nights in Bangkok plus a couple of nights on an island. A 4N/5D trip covers one hub and one island; extend to 8N/9D to add the north (Chiang Mai) or a second island.
What clothing should you pack for Thailand?
Light natural fabrics for the hot, humid months, plus sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and mosquito repellent. Add full sleeves, long pants and a rain jacket for the wet season, and carry modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees for temple visits.
Which Thailand package is best?
For a first trip, Bangkok + Phuket + Krabi (6N); for honeymoon, Phuket or Krabi (5N); for a short break, Bangkok + Pattaya (4N).
Which are the best islands in Thailand?
Phuket, the Phi Phi Islands, Krabi, Ko Samui, Koh Phangan, the Similan Islands and Ko Lipe are the standouts. Mix a lively island with a quiet one to balance parties, diving and calm beaches.
What are the best places to shop in Thailand?
Chatuchak Weekend Market and Pratunam in Bangkok, the Phuket Weekend Market, Jungceylon and Central Festival in Phuket, and the Chiang Mai night bazaar. Prices are low and bargaining is expected at the markets.
What are some amazing water sports to try in Thailand?
Scuba diving, snorkelling, banana-boat rides, jet-ski, wakeboarding, kite-surfing, windsurfing and sailing are all on offer. The Similan Islands and Ko Tao are top for diving; Phuket, Krabi and Pattaya cover the rest.
Can I customize my Thailand tour package?
Yes. Every one of the 385 packages is fully customizable. Change hotels, add or drop cities, swap in a cooking class or a Phi Phi day-trip, and choose land-only or with-flights. Your agent updates the itinerary and price before you pay.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
Cancellation and refund terms depend on the agent, hotels and airlines in your specific package. Your agent shares the exact policy in writing before you pay, and payment is released only after your booking vouchers are issued.
How good is mobile and internet connectivity in Thailand?
Coverage is strong in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai. A local tourist SIM (AIS, TrueMove or dtac) or an eSIM is cheap and easy to pick up at the airport. On smaller islands the signal can be patchy, so download offline maps before you go.
What is the currency in Thailand and how much cash should I carry?
The Thai Baht (THB); 1 THB is about ₹2.86. Carry cash for street food, markets and ferries, and use cards at malls and hotels. City exchange counters beat the airport rate.
What are the outdoor things to do in Thailand?
There are so many ways to spend time in Thailand during a vacation. Try these top 7 outdoor things to do in Thailand :
- Island Hopping in Thailand as there are around 300 islands; start from Thai Island and then continue.
- Be the audience in Muay Thai fight which is Thailand’s national sport. Head to the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok for the Thai fight.

- Spend an Evening in Nana Plaza (Soi 4) which is located along the main road which has its route through Bangkok, and is known as Sukhumvit road.
- Take part in the Water Fight during Songkran as Songkran is celebrated as the traditional New Year of Thailand.
Is vegetarian and Indian food available?
Yes across the tourist belt and most cities; on remote islands it is more limited, so our itineraries flag reliable spots. (Keep the remaining live FAQ entries, packing, water sports, islands and meals, refreshed for 2026; do not drop them.)
